1000 Game Contest Winner

My favourite memory of Tie Domi: (So far!)

As a gift for my 22nd Birthday (April 15th, 1998) I received two tickets in the corner end Golds at Maple Leaf Gardens to watch the Leafs and the Chicago Blackhawks. As me and a friend entered the Gardens through the Hot Stove Lounge we were directed to a booth where we enjoyed some spirits and food before the warm-up. Walking through the corridor and up the walk way we emerged to see the lights in full glare with both teams taking the warm-up. I instantly had a chill as to the spectre of the arena and the players on the ice up close and personal.

As we settled into our seats and the game began we quickly realised that the two top NHL heavy weights were lining up against each other tonight. Bob Probert and Tie Domi!!! How lucky were we? we would soon find out.....Although the anticipated Domi vs. Probert fight would have been good....a fight breaks out in our corner between Tie & Cam Russell as they start to through jabs, it is quickly determined that Russell is nowhere near a match for the NHL's top Heavyweight. This fight continues with plenty of punches and we are all on our feet as the fight is less than 15 feet away! Tie knocks Cam's helmet off and then pulls his jersey over his head...as this happened Cam starts to fall backwards and Tie lands one last punch that leaves Cam out cold on the ice in front of us. The crowd is absolutely going nuts as their is no question who is the fan favourite in this building!! As Cam Russell lay motionless you could tell that Tie did not want the outcome to be like this and the look on his face shared his concern for his opponent...after a short delay the medical staff wheel Cam off the ice and Tie heads to the penalty box. I noticed while he was going that Bob Probert was leaning over the bench and was motioning for Tie to fight....

Now we thought the game would settle into it's normal pace...Ha~ that wasn't going to happen. Kris King & Reid Simpson had a fuelled dual later in the 2nd period. Heading into the 3rd it seemed that Probert was on the ice only to look at getting revenge. It finally happened as Tie acknowledged the veteran and they locked up...the crowd was back on their feet and we witnessed another classic Tie vs. Probert match-up. It was a nice fight..plenty of swinging and lots of enthusiasm from both involved.

I had respect for Tie for getting into this fight, he knew that Probert needed to stick up for his fallen teammate...and easily could have waited for another game to do battle, but instead granted the wish. To this day I still have not had the same rush of adrenaline from watching any other NHL game. It was a great memory for me as a Hockey Fan and it solidified Tie Domi as a true Blue and White legend.

Congrats on 1000th ~ I have enjoyed watching you from your days in Peterborough, New York, Winnipeg & Here in Toronto where you have never dissapointed US the Fans!

More Favorite Tie Moments

My son and I where at our first buds club open practice we where lucky enough to get seats right by the glass in the corner. When the leafs lined up to do some puck handling drills the kids all went crazy banging the glass at the players. Tie Domi stopped in front of us and my son along with a bunch of other kids where banging the glass calling tie. Tie pretended to ignore them and then elbowed the glass and scared the crap out them. He then turned and gave them all a big grin.

My most memorable moment of Tie Domi was during the 2000-2001 playoffs. The Maple Leafs were in tough against the Ottawa Senators in the quarter-finals, having finished nearly 20 points behind them during the regular season. I live in Ottawa but hate the Senators with a passion. I also happen to be a Leafs super fan and have been for as long as I can remember. I was one of the few people that predicted a Leafs win that year. In game 1, the Senators came out flying, taking shot after shot on Cujo but coming up empty on every occasion. Then came the hit. Rookie Martin Havlat of the Senators had just made a pass through the neutral zone and little did he know that one of the league's best hitters was coming right at him. Tie Domi nailed Havlat with a perfect open-ice hit and sent him flying backwards a good ten feet. That hit by Tie Domi turned the series upside down, as the Sens momentum was completely halted from that point on. The Leafs went on to sweep the Sens and Domi's hit on the unsuspecting rookie Havlat was one of the major factors in that series. That hit was my most memorable moment of Tie Domi.

TM - Ottawa, Ontario

I still talk about the day (playoffs 2003/04) when Domi scored a pretty nice goal, I believe it was against Ottawa, when he got back to the bench everyone was chirpin’ back and forth and Domi signed his stick and threw it over to the other bench! Loved it!!

SF - Toronto, Ontario

My favourite, most memorable moment had to be the entire 2002-03 season!!! Domi was on fire!! Not only did he continue to protect his team mates and be the "Heart" of the Leafers, he also had his career-high in goals and points! 15 goals and 29 points!! Are you kidding me? That was an amazing year for Tie and it was a joy to tune into the games and watch him work. Way to go Domer, you are awesome!!! Keep up the good work, you are the epitome of Toronto hockey!!

RC - Halton, Ontario

Domi wrestled with a spectator who jumped from the second row and landed on the glass separating the box from the crowd during the Maple Leafs' 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Hilarious :-)

DF - Gatineau, Quebec

My favourite memory of Tie was seeing him work out at the Pan Pacific Vancouver Health Club when I was the manager there. The Leafs would stay at my hotel when they were in town to play the Canucks. Tie and Gary Roberts would do their workouts and just hang around and be normal guys chatting with team-mates and the Club Members. I remember those guys holding the doors for other folks as they were on their way out. Class acts. Even though I was a huge Tie fan I never approached him to sign my Leafs jersey because it's against policy for hotel staff to chase after celebrities. I'd sure love to get a signed jersey now though!!

Back during the ugly lock out time of the NHL season 2004-2005, I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Domi at a local restaurant in Kitchener, where I live. I had my son who had just turned 3 at the time with me. My son and I watch every Leaf game together when I am not working. That day, he happened to have his Leaf jersey on while we were having breakfast. The very observant waiter saw that my son was wearing his jersey and mentioned that Mr. Domi was sitting having breakfast with his family in the dining room below us. I approached Mr. Domi with my son, and without skipping a beat, Mr. Domi was kind enough to take time out of his breakfast to sign my sons shirt and speak to him for a little while. Although my son was only 3 at the time, he was absolutely thrilled to meet Mr. Domi, who was gracious enough to take time away from his own breakfast. Of course, it was a huge thrill for me since I consider myself to be a Leaf Fanatic and for Mr. Domi to take his time for us, even though there was no season at the time, made me realize what an amazing person he truly is.

JH - Kitchener, Ontario

Hi there!
This is my most memorable moment with Tie Domi. It is from all his charity. I worked with him on a Variety Childrens Charity.. To me Domi is not only a hockey player he is a great person who devotes his time to so much which means a lot to all of us. He has inspired me to follow my dreams and now I am working at the CBC.

JP - Toronto, Ontario

My memorable moment of Tie was when he fought Rob Ray. These two combatants went at it everytime they met. Of course Tie won every time, but I give Ray credit for tapping Tie on the shoulder everytime the fight was over.

MS - Sarnia, Ontario

Tie,

I think your greatest moment was when you were with the Rangers. It was the biggest thing of the year.

PROBERT AND DOMI 2. Man that was so exciting to watch, it gave me goose bumps as soon as I saw the gloves drop.

I’m one of your biggest fans Tie. I’m from Ontario but know reside out in Edmonton. I have not yet missed a Leaf game in the 7yrs I have lived here.

It really sucks that you won’t be out here for a few years so I guess I will have to book a flight to Toronto next season.

I was at the Calgary game and then the Oiler game the next night which was a better game haha!

Well thanks for all the great memories Tie and keep up the good work.

FU - Edmonton, Alberta

Congratulations on your 1000th game.
I am British and am converted to Canadian Hockey and always watch the Leaf games either on television or at the ACC. Any time Tie scores is a memorable moment for me as he seems so genuinely pleased, not for himself but for the team. He is a real team player and sets shots up for others, whereas often he could have tried a shot himself.

AT - Toronto, Ontario

My most memorable moment was a few years ago in the playoffs when the leafs had a lot of players out, and Tie had a wonderful playoff and became more then just a fighter. Congrats Tie on your 1000 game hope there's lots more with the Leafs. GO LEAFS GO

KR - Toronto, Ontario

Hi
My name is Keara Shepherd and I am a leaf freak. I mean, I eat, sleep and breathe leafs! Of course, Domi is my hockey hero, so little but so bloody tough! My mom has no idea where I get my hockey fetish from but I love hockey(and those leafs)! So anyways, I was livin in Calgary, but I wasnt a Flames fan, in the 2003/04 season when the leafs came to town, I was so broke, I couldnt get a ticket. Luckly for me, I knew my way around the saddledome. Me and my sister snuck into the game! We found some empty seats we had scoped out and watched a very brutal game. The leafs lost but I was so happy to be there! Domi got a few terrible penalties, the refs were houndin that man like he was goin out of style! I was screamin and yellin so much. After the game we headed down where the players come out after the games (it was a fluke, I had no idea they came out there!) and the first person I saw was Tie. I was so lost for words, Id never been so close to a hockey player in my life! So there I was standing 2 feet away from my great one. I walked up to him and opened my mouth to say something to the man but he cut me off. He told me he didnt want to sign any autographs at the moment. Well I didnt have anything to sign so I just looked at him and said " I dont want your autograph, I just wanted to tell you your a great hockey player and you got some really terrible calls". Well it cheered the man up, he thanked me, smiled and proceeded to sign autographs. I felt so good about myself, I cheered up one of hockys greatest players! If it wasnt for my lil comment, he would have been a disapointment to some of the fans wantin the team to sign autographs, but he wasnt! I think Tie Domi is one of the hardest workin players in the league, havin him smile at me was better than an autograghed piece of paper and I made him happy at the same time. Thanx for reading my lil story, Im sure he has done lots of great things out there, in fact I know he has, but he granted me the pleasure of makin him have a better day.
Thanks again

KS - Airdrie, Alberta

My most memorable moment of Tie’s career would definitely have to be when Tie laded a beating on Bob Probert and afterwards was skating around making gestures of himself wearing the championship title belt.

It was great to see Take on the toughest guy who ever played and then to beat him and let everyone know that he was now the heavyweight champ showed who the real tough guy was and that he was also funny and could laugh at the situation.

About two years ago, my wife, 8 yr. old daughter at the time and 3 yr.old son, (Jack) attended the annual Leaf practice which the organization puts on for Leaf fans. Tie Domi has always been one of the favourites in this house and Jack was wearing his Leaf sweater at the practice, complete with number 28 and Domi on the back. We had arrived early enough to secure great seats along the rail by the penalty box. We were all excited when, during one of the drills, Tie was lined up right in front of us. We asked Jack, who was only about six inches away from Tie, separated by the glass, who that was. His face lit up and he yelled, “Tie Domi !!,”

At this point numerous fans were pounding on the glass, etc. trying to get Tie’s attention. Tie turned and looked directly at Jack and gave him a big smile. What happened next was the best part. Tie leaned down, picked up one of the practice pucks and tossed it over the glass for Jack. A nearby teenager, however, jumped up and intercepted the pass. That’s when we all experienced what I’m sure many opponents have in the past when they have crossed Tie. Immediately, those dark eyes flashed in the direction of the interloper and Tie stated, very intensely while pointing at Jack , “It’s for the lttle guy !”

The offending teenager immediately relinquished the puck to Jack and sat down looking a little shaken. He had just ticked off one of the most feared enforcers in the game and Tie had made his feelings clear.

What a thrill it was for our young son to receive this special gift from his favourite player. And the manner in which he received it has become a story which has been told and retold in our family. About a year after that, I had the opportunity to meet Tie at the Rigatoni for Research dinner in Oakville, of which my wife and I are supporters. I told Tie the puck story and he seemed to really enjoy it and thanked me for sharing it with him. He also gave me a nice personalized autograph for his biggest fan, Jack Murray.

MJM - Toronto, Ontario

The most memorble moment is on March 30 , 2001 when Tie Domi squirted water at fan from the penalty box. Then the fan fell throw the glass right into the penalty box.

My other best moment is everytime Domi would fight and beat brashear.

AN - Toronto, Ontario

We were in TO on business and on game night found ourselves with free time. Last minute tickets to the game, a snowstorm and Tie scoring two goals in about one minute and thirty seconds against Tampa Bay make it one of the most memorable moments for any Tie fan. Tie was quoted on an interview later that night saying he felt sorry for the goalie...

Congratulations Tie on the big 1000!!!

RM - Toronto, Ontario

My best memory of Tie Domi was when he fought Probert and won and pretended to wear the Championship belt, with hand gestures. He is my favourite hockey player for a man that is best known as a fighter cares more about and works harder then any player on that team in the Playoffs especially he is something else…….

JS - Toronto, Ontario

Tie Domi is not just a great athelete he is an amazing role model. I still remember when he took the young guy from PEI and gave him box seats to a game against the lightning , and if i remember the kid was a lightning fan there to see Brad Richards , and who gives him a seat , the man "Tie Domi", the picture i sent in is a great picture of Tie, I Think. Anyway I love the guy and look up to him, I'll never be able to afford any NHL jersey but having one autographed by Tie Domi would make it all worth while. Please if you read this pick me.

RW - Toronto, Ontario

Although Gary Bettman wouldn't agree, I thought the sweetest moment for Tie was when he laid out Ulf Samuelsson....A guy who deserved it soooo much.

EM - Toronto, Ontario

I think that Tie Domi is the best player ever!! Its amazing that he has now played 1000 games.

For the contest I think that my favorite memory was when he scored a goal and he skated around the Net and pointed right at his goal!! It was so cool I thought!! I have many pictures of Tie Domi and I don’t know which One I like the best so I will just show then one that matches my favorite memory.

I have also had another great moment. I went outside for a second when the game was on and my sister and My dad were watching it. When I walked in the house they screamed DOMI SCORED!! I was jumping up and down And screaming and I found out that he didn’t score. It was a very funny and happy memory I had!!

TIE DOMI is the best he is the best player I have ever liked!! I have like him for many years now! And I was really mad When my dad told me Tie Domi might not be playing this year. ( that was before this season started ) I was so happy to Find out he was playing again for the leafs!! I love watching Tie Domi!! He is my HERO!!!!

CS - Toronto, Ontario

I was once at a birthday party while my parents and their friends went to dinner. Tie was at the restaurant and after the birthday finished my parents took me to the restaurant. As I walked into to Noche I looked around I got so excited I yelled out there is Tie Domi a little loud. In the end I met Tie got his autograph and will always remember meeting one of my favourite hockey players.

I hope Tie plays 1000 more.

MG - Toronto, Ontario

My most favorite moment by far was the evening in Philadelphia when the Flyer fan enraged by Tie squirting the water bottle, fell into the penalty box and subsequently was pummelled by Tie who was fearing (?) for his safety. What makes this special is the fact that I've been living in Texas for the past 15 years, but in being a Canadian and a former usher at the old MLG, truly bleed blue and white. I watched the game live that evening on ESPN and other than sharing this hilarious moment with my American wife, thought that was the end of it. Not so. The next day at work , my buddies ( not hockey fans) , who had seen the clip throughout the evening , couldnt wait to hear my take as well as find out more about this Leaf favorite. What's amazing is that to this day, friends of mine, who still arent hockey fans, do recognize the name Tie Domi and recall the one evening he OWNED the US sports headlines. Congratulations Tie. You are a true example of how hard work can capture a dream.

KW - Texas, USA

Every moment that Tie plays hockey is a memorable one. He is one the best players that the leafs have and I can never figure out why Pat Quinn does not give him more ice time. He has the spirit that the team needs.

TD - Mississauga, Ontario

I’ve been a die hard Tie Domi fan since he first started with the Leafs at the end of the 94/95 season.

My most memorable moment was an incident between Tie and Ulf Samuelsson, when Ulf was being his usual pain in the neck and was trying to get Tie to start something and at first he ignored him. Ulf kept trying and Tie finally said to him, ‘lets go’ but Ulf wouldn’t drop the gloves. Well, after a bit more time of this going back in forth and you could tell Tie was telling Ulf ‘let’s go’, but he still wouldn’t drop the gloves……Tie figured he’d given Ulf enough time to do something and he finally got fed up and just popped him a quick one! Ulf went down like a rock!

I can still remember it to this day, though I’m not sure what year it was. I know there’s an excellent picture of this, with 3 pictures in one frame showing the action. This is one picture I’ve looked at many times to buy, but just couldn’t do it.

Anyway, this is one of my most memorable moments of Tie Domi!

Thanks very much for all the excitement and hard work! Keep it up Tie!

CK - Oshawa, Ontario

My memorable moment was when my husband and i went to see the leafs play detroit,we met a few of the players including tie domi.He was very nice he signed my jersey which made me very happy,he was the only one that did.The leafs lost that night but we had a good time.Keep up the good work tie.We all love you here in Essex Ont.

VC - Essex, Ontario

Could you possibly single any one great moment out? I am an Australian who has been fortunate enough to live in Toronto for two years of my life and who has been fortunate enough to see the Leafs play at both the Maple Leaf Gardens and the Air Canada Center. The biggest drawcard for me was always the sheer presence of Tie Domi. His loyalty, doggedness, willingness to support his team-mates, passion, skill, grit and the fact that he has one blue eye and one white eye will always set Tie high up on the pedestal. I heard him once described as a goon who could skate a bit. Well, whoever had that opinion has obviously had their eyes painted on! For me, witnessing Tie's attempts to lift a weary Leafs during the 2003/2004 play-offs was a highlight. If all Leafs players played with that much determination and hunger, there would be a few more Stanley Cups on the mantle. A true legend who is deserving of greater accolades!

DO - Queensland, Australia

My most memorable Tie Domi moment would have to be the night Tie had a fan pour beer on him. Tie turned around gave the guy some water and then pummled him. I think the picture below just about sums up the events of this night vs. the Flyers.

JH - Toronto, Ontario

when Tie got his 20th point of the season for the leafs and got his bonus

WC - Toronto, Ontario

Joe Nieuwendyk, Gary Roberts, Tie Domi and Ed Belfour joined GM John Ferguson and a group of former Leafs and NHL greats in assistant Keith Acton's Game Of Our Lives II at Stouffville Arena, raising about $30,000 for local cancer and leukemia charities.

SK - Toronto, Ontario

My most memorable moment with regards to Tie Domi is the beautiful fights he used to get in with Scott Stevens(going back a few years) Now my most memorable moment is when he was playing on the Crazy Eights Line for Pat Quinn this year and as my wife and I watched the game and that line kept adding up points when the thought was to be a grunge line. My wife turned to me and said that if the chance arose, she would like to sleep with Tie Domi as he is her most favourite player in the whole NHL because of his all around charm and attitude. I still can not figure out why Quinn broke up the line to make changes before Lindros broke his wrist, not so smart Mr. Quinn. Thanks you for your ear and I look forward to hearing from you soon to find out where I can get my Autographed Jersey and 8 X 10 photo.

SC - Toronto, Ontario

Mr Domi

You have been one of my favorite Leafs of all time your grit to take on all comers no matter what size although I would like too see you beat the living daylights out of that idiot in Ottawa # 16 .I hope it happens someday.

The best moment really its moments are your many fights with Bob Probert. Once again its your size and heart that gets me. No matter who it is even if your hit hard you will take them on.

Congratulations on your long stay in the NHL and your up coming 1000th game in the bigs. You always should have been a LEAF through your career in my books…

Even if I don’t win a sweater it was a pleasure to give my input..

PA - Mississauga, Ontario

i was previliged enough to be invited by "King" Clancy to sit with him in the famous "bunker" for a period of a Leaf-Blues game in 1987.He was taken to the hospital after the game and passed away within 48 hours.I still have the photo taken of the two us arm in arm (probably the last photo ever taken of the King....a pic that adourns a page in the Maple Leafs,Memories and Dreams coffee table book. The nicest man I ever met..what a thrill!!

All the best Tie!!!

RF - Cambridge, Ontario

My most memorable moment of tie was a game against philadelphia , and tie was mad at Sandy mc carthy [who?] for acussing him of calling him the n -word . Tie the man that he is, refused to ever fight mc carthy again. The great memory here was when tie domi at christmas is seen with children of many dominations handy out gifts to the many poor children in our society[ out of his goodwill and hard earned money ]sharing with underprivileage children . know thats class !!!! OH yeah we won that game 6-4 and i was there .

ME - Toronto, Ontario

Hello,

My most memorable Tie Domi moment was his fight in Madison Square Garden when he declared himself the heavyweight champion.

I am looking forward to his 1000th game, that will hopefully be when we are in Buffalo to see the Leafs on March 3rd.

GJ - Toronto, Ontario

You can see the most memorial photo on his homepage. The "hardest guy" of the NHL hold the baby. The fans of the NHL always see the "Fighter" Tie Domi, but his much more than that. His is a guy which one is working hard all the time. He haven't the talent of Spezza, Kovalchuck, Gretzky......, but he is always working hard on the ice. And that's TIE DOMI....a real "playing" legend of LEAFS.

Tie Domi, congratulation to your 1000th NHL-Game and good luck for the next 500 games and for your life.

P.S. I love also your fights and checks.

The Leafs Fan from Germany

MH - Niederhummel, Germany

For some reason every time I hear " Tie Domi " This night crosses my mind............

I had the best seats I ever had at Maple Leaf gardens, centre ice first row above the gold's and the Jets were in town.

I could not wait to see the leafs beat up Winnipeg and as a bonus, see a big league heavy weight bout between Clark and Domi.

Turns out to be a bit of a stinker........Jets 1.......Leafs 0... on some kind of blind dump it at the net spin-a-rama goal by Tie.

I think he may have had one other goal that season !!!!..........I was bitter for some time. But that was a long time ago and I'm glad he is one of the good guy's now. Congratulations on your 1000th game Tie............

KM - Brantford, Ontario

My most memorable monment was when Tie Domi came to the rescue at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto after sick children were taken advantage of during a very difficult time.

My son when he was younger spent a lot of time at Sick Kids, the hospital would have famous people come by to help put a smile on their faces. I am so grateful, even though I don't know these people that Tie came to the rescue. When we first heard about it on the news, my son said Tie Domi will be there as soon as he hears about that, he will put a smile on their faces. Within two days, that's exactly what we heard on the news. Keep on giving Tie, what goes around, comes around.

RC - Oshawa, Ontario

My most memorable moment of Tie Domi is when he signed his first big contract with the Leafs, for over a million dollars. At the news conference he was so excited and almost in shock to be signing for such a significant amount.

BC - Toronto, Ontario

When Tie fought, I think it was Probert, and on the way to the penalty box he made a gesture with his hands across his waist as if he retained the heavy weight belt. Don Cherry didn't like it but I thought it was great.

DM - Toronto, Ontario

My name is dan vespi I am huge leafs fan, and domi fan, and i have to say my favorite tie domi moment was when he pulled the fan into the penalty box and beat him up that was classic tie domi toughness. Thanks for all the great memories and all the heart you put into the game Tie.

DV - Toronto, Ontario

i would have to say my most memorable moment of tie domi would have to be tie`s first goal

FC - Toronto, Ontario

Congrats Tie on your 1000th game, we are glad you could do it with the Maple leafs. I have two moments I remember, one was the day the leafs drafted you in 1988, then again when they got you back. My most memorable moment though was not something you did but something my son did. He was almost two and I was watching a game on tv and you scored and I yelled and said yah way to go Tie and he repeated it and ever since then you are the only Leaf he recognizes on tv. Way to go Tie

RB - Toronto, Ontario

Im your biggest fan!!! you motivate me to be a better person!!!

One of my favorite memories of Mr. Domi comes from the battles with Philly. Philly in the last few min of the game put out a goon line. the philly tough guys started beating on players who are not fighters or tough guys. Tie came to the rescue and took on 2 guys who u could tell didnt want to be on the recieving end of Tie's huge right hands. Tie domi is a leader and role model for me he is a little man with a huge heart who is there for all his team mates. I just hope that when his playing days are done there is still a job for him in leaf land. My #1 dream would be to meet this great role model!!! go leafs go All the best to you tie Thanks for being you!!!!!

ET - Toronto, Ontario

My most memorable moment was Feb. 13th 2004.I had written a letter to Mr. Domi regarding my little daughter Katelyn Murray. This was the second letter I had written in Thanks. She is an Easter Seal child who has never been able to get his autograph or a picture of him, but never the less loves him to no end.I thought by chance I would write the Leafs to see if there was a way for this great little girl to get just a small picture of him.

Well, when the mailman brought the letter and my eyes had a look at the very familliar leaf logo, I started to shake!

After getting Katelyn placed on the couch, I told her mom had a big surprise for her. As soon as she saw the same leaf logo on the envelope mom had she started to scream!

After mom reading the letter to her she begn to cry.As her mom this was one of the hardest things to watch!

I will always be very grateful to him for taking the time to make a child smile so very much.

Her little jersey that mom bought her and had Domi's name and number is now way too small but, hangs in her room with great pride.

A new one would be wonderful, seeing she is always asking mom! Thanks too all who made this wonderful little girls dream come true with the picture and autograph from Mr. Domi.

In our house Tie Domi Rules!!!

VC - Toronto, Ontario

I have two accually ............. one is the first time Tie was on Coaches corner with Grapes . You could see the pride in Ties face that he had now made the big time. Grapes was hugging him and saying how good Tie is as a person and all around player........Tie is a proud man and you could see it in him that day. I was also proud as a leaf fan.

The second hasn't happened yet but is on the 11th of this month. I have been a long time loyal leaf fan. With several fav players over the yrs But my all time fave overall player is Tie......... I have never been able to make it to a real Leaf game in person in my life but on the 11th I will get to see my fav player play in person.

My wife and kids got me a ticket for the ultimate leaf game from red cross at christmas . My daughter put it on a big card she made........... See I have a spinal disability and can't work now so going to a game is not financially easy for us............anyhow Monday they called..........I won a trip for two by chopper to Toronto for the game on the 11th , hotel that night , dinner at the platnum club and gold seats for the game..........its a dream come true. Now I am entering this to win that jersey of my fav all time player which I would love to ware to the game ..........this is the best thing ever.......and a romantic weekend for my wife and I.

I hope I win and with anyluck wouldlove to meet tie.

DS - Sarnia, Ontario

The moment I remember best of Tie Domi was just after one of his fights (I think with Cairns of the NY Islanders) Domi was mocking his opponent in the penalty box, and then proceeded to autograph his own stick and toss it into the opponent’s penalty box! What a laugh!

I have to say the most memorable moment came not on the ice. It was off the ice when Tie showed his true self when he was first to speak to Wendle Clarks trade to detroit red wings, going to his friend and showing the true spirit of the game that it isn't always about the game or money but that there will always be true friendship and compassion in this game we love, and that he and many others are there for the people the work with and have grown with. Thank you Tie With the greatest respect

My memory is from about four years ago when my Husband (Doug) took me to my very first Leafs game. I was still new to the whole game as I had only just started to get into the sport after my son started to play. I was so excited to be there and watched in awe as the players came out onto the ice. I saw Tie Domi enter the rink and I turned to Doug and said, "That guy is going to get hurt, the others are bigger than him!". Doug laughed and explained to me that Tie doesn't take the hurt, he gives it. After watching the way Tie plays he became my favourite player that night. He still is my all time favourite today and to have a jersey of his would be amazing.

There are so many memorable moments that I think every hockey fan has of Tie Domi that it is truly impossible to pinpoint it down to just one. From his fights no matter what the outcome and that smile that he always has after a fight, to his big smile when he scores a goal no matter which goal it is his first, fifth, tenth or what he is always happy about it. To the way he helps his community and childern. He always puts a smile on peoples faces.

So for me there are to many memorable moments. I hope we continue to see that smile time after time.

I forget the year exactly but it would have been in the early 90's at a game in Winnipeg against the Jets. I was a resident of Winnipeg at the time but have always been a Leaf fan for as far back as I can remember. Every time the Leafs were in town a group of about 8 of us would always get tickets, put on our Leafs jerseys and go to the game. On this particular night, as we sat right behind the Leafs net, front row, a skirmish breaks out as one of the Jets ( Steen, I think ) took a swat at our goalie as he gloved the puck. Of course, Tie took offence to this, pinned his man up against the boards, gave him a good glove massage and threw in a some commentary too colorfull to repeat. Well we went nuts and started to kick the end boards, yelling and screaming, etc. and Tie looked over at us as the skirmish broke up. The next period a similar skirmish takes place, again near our seats, so we proceed to pound on the glass, yell & scream, etc., and as Tie skates by he taps the glass with his stick in acknowledgment. Now we're really fired up and the Jets fans are on our case big time. One of the security people comes over and gives us a warning - " if you boys pound on the glass or kick the end boards once more you'll have to leave ". Shortly after, the Leafs score and we all jump up from our seats and without thinking we pound the glass and kick the end boards again - all at once we realized our mistake and quickly sat down. The security guy came over and once again reiterated has warning to us - I think he realized our latest outburst was strictly in reaction to the Leaf goal - plus it was still in the second period, so it was nice that he didn't have us leave. Early in the third period a tight game was broken open by the Jets as a result of some bad penalties taken by the Leafs. A two goal lead was stretched to 3 or 4 and the game was all but over. The Jets fans around us were giving it to us with every big hit and goal by the Jets and like the Leafs, our frustration was building. All of a sudden a scrum breaks out in front of the net, then another off to the side, and then a third pushing match starts up near us - you guessed it TIE. A fight ensues and the place is going wild. I remember looking over my shoulder at the security guard to see him glaring over at our group. We held it together - no glass pounding or kicking - then as the fights broke up Tie was escorted by the ref. around the back of the net right past us when one of my buddies yells out " way to go Tie ". Tie pulls up right in front of us and swats the glass with his hand as the ref. guides him on his way to the box. WE HAD NO CHOICE!!! We pounded, kicked and chanted DOMI, DOMI as loud as we could - then simply started to walk out before security had to ask us to.

We still talk about that night and many of the games we went to ( including the last game at the Gardens ), there just seemed to be some sort of connection with Tie that night ( maybe it was the beer we drank?? ). He is the heart of that team.

Tie, congrats, our on your 1000th game - thanks for making hockey fun!

My most memorable moment was the news conference following his punch to the face of a player a few seasons ago. Tie shed a few tears that night, but the thing that stuck out the most was how Tie said he had to try to explain to his children why their daddy wasn’t playing hockey. I realized that someone known for their muscle on the ice was soft on the inside and showed courage and respect and most of all INTEGRITY!

TIE DOMI = INTEGRITY

Who could ever forget the water bottle incident in Phili... A moment that will stand out in time... Congrat's Tie!

I live in Ottawa and take all the necessary criticism of being of Leaf Fan. I never switched, nor did my husband who’s been a loyal fan for 50 years. Tie has always been my favorite player because of who he is, and what he has accomplished. There is no “one” memorable moment for me, he impresses me even when he’s not on the ice. You’ll find me yelling at the TV during games, saying “Put Tie on …..”. He has so much desire and emotion, and respect for his team members, he fires them up. Congratulations Tie on your 1000th game, good luck and help bring us that Stanley Cup.

My most memorable moment in Tie’s career came when he won his first bout with Bob Probert and motioned as if he was putting the heavyweight belt on. While that should have been in a Leaf uniform, it was just as entertaining in any uniform.

I would say the most memorable of many that I have is the time that you where in the penalty box, not that you knew how to get there, and you sprayed water on the Philadelphia fan from the water bottle and he tried to get at you and fell into the box with you. What an idiot he was. Of course you tried to help him back to his seat.:)

Any time Tie does anything for charity. An enforcer on the ice, but such a giving human being off the ice, he always seems willing to give up his time for those less fortunate then him.

My memorable moment was watching one of your fights when you played for the Winnipeg Jets, where I grew up. You did the tug boat after obliterating your heavy hitting opponent. I remember it vividly because I was young (maybe 10 years old) and I played hockey and knowing that you were smaller then your peers but still had the heart to go toe-to-toe with the other tough guys in the league gave me the confidence to play the game tough and strong. I now live in Toronto and am a huge fan of yours. You made us all very proud when you scored that goal against Ottawa to give Leaf fans a hope that we’ll win one yet against in the regular season.

Congrats on your 1000th game Tie! Here’s to 1000 more! Cheers.

PS The clip I am referring to was also in one of Don Cherry’s Rockem Sockem. It was in 92 or 93 I think.

Don't have one memorable moment. A man who plays tough, but proved in New York and by all means in Toronto, The man has heart off gold with charities and other stuff. Like Gilmour And Domi it's is great. And the hall off fame will be there for Domi a man who should of been laying off with the rules, then he proves he can put the puck in. For a little a guy he's on my all time top 10, and that's good With Keon to Horton. Stay with the organizing the fans love yeh, not that much thou to kiss yeh but your awesome.Good luck on your career

Just before the Olympics when the team was in a real rut…Tie broke out and scored in a game where they seemed doomed to lose. He is not known as a top scorer but he proved to be a great team motivator who steps up to the plate when needed.
