Maple Leafs forward Tie Domi, who is involved in a playoff
battle with the Ottawa Senators, has agreed to serve his supoena
to testify at the Toronto Computer Leasing Inquiry, his lawyer
said today.
“Mr. Domi has accepted service of today’s subpoena
and is fully prepared to cooperate with the Commission. My
client has cooperated fully with requests of Commission counsel
to date and will continue to do so in the future,” said
Symon Zucker, counsel for Domi.
Zucker told the star.com today that Domi’s status in
the series against Ottawa won’t be affected by the inquiry.
It has been agreed that the Leaf forward won’t have
to testify until after April 19.
“We don’t have a fixed date for his evidence,”
Zucker said.
Game 7 of the Leafs-Senators series is scheduled for April
20.
It’s not known how long Domi’s testimony will
last or whether he would miss any playoff games.
“We’re agreed it won’t be during the Ottawa
series,” Zucker said.
Asked how this impending inquiry will affect his client’s
focus for the playoffs, the laywer said: “It’s
not a positive event.”
“Athletes are very focused and anything unrelated to
the game would be distracting. It’s unfortunate.”
The inquiry, which will resume April 19, is examining how
a $43 million computer-leasing deal with MFP Financial Services
Ltd., approved by city council in July, 1999, nearly doubled
in size without its authorization.
Former MFP salesman Dash Domi, a brother of Tie’s,
is expected to return to the witness box on the opening day.
