TIE DOMI has filed a $1.65-million US lawsuit against an Ottawa sports radio station and a former on-air host at the station, but the Maple Leafs winger would like to have the matter settled soon. "To date there has been nothing but impressive dialogue," Domi's agent, Pat Morris, said in reference to talks with CHUM Ltd., the owner of the Team 1200 in Ottawa. "We had two choices, to accept the seriousness of (the comments of broadcaster Don Romani), or to ignore them. With the seriousness, we can't ignore them."

Domi's statement of claim says that on April 6, Romani, on the air, said in reference to Domi and his wife, Leanne, "I'll bet you his idea of aerobics is to bang her around once a week. Well, look it, you think a man who would go after Magnus Arvedson would not go after a woman? Same thing ... same thing."

There were other alleged comments made by Romani. The reference to Arvedson stemmed from a game between the Leafs and Ottawa Senators last year.

Tie and Leanne Domi each demanded $700,000 in compensatory and punitive damage. Tie Domi seeks another $250,000 in special damages.

Romani, who had issued an on-air apology, was fired later in April.
