Surgery on Domi hip goes perfectly

The Maple Leafs announced yesterday that right winger Tie Domi underwent successful hip surgery at the St.John's Margaret's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Marc Phillipon, who also repaired teammate Alexander Mogilny's hip last November.

Domi had tears repaired at both the front and back of the hip, but unlike Mogilny, osteoarthritis had not yet set in.

Domi and the Leafs are hoping that by having the surgery, that will be prevented.

Mogilny missed 40 games and three months recovering from his surgery.

If Domi follows the same recovery schedule, he should be ready to play by the time training camp opens in mid-September.

Domi had seven goals, 13 assists and 208 penalty minutes in 80 regular-season games.
