Not quite eye-to-eye: Leafs differ on visors
Domi says gear uncomfortable for regular use Nolan surprised by how quickly he adjusted to it

Owen Nolan and Tie Domi played their first games with a visor last night, and the two veterans had widely differing reviews after a tough and emotion- filled 5-1 win over Ottawa.

"I can't see it happening," Domi said about continuing using the half visor he used last night.

"I can say I tried it. If something happens, I can say I tried it. If I have to explain to my wife and kids, I can say I tried it and I'm uncomfortable."

Domi was wearing the eye protection in the wake of serious eye injuries to Nolan and Darcy Tucker. Domi said his wife "read me the riot act" and changed his opposition to it.

Nolan pulled no punches in his first game with the protective eyewear, slamming bodies and shoving opponents with his usual aggressiveness.

"I don't know how many times I had to take it off to wipe it," Nolan said. "I think the trainer's arms are sore from all the wiping, but I was surprised how quick I got used to it."

Nolan was making his return four weeks to the day from a high-sticking incident that scarred his left retina.

"I still have the spots (in his vision) and they'll stay there (about another month)," Nolan said. "I got a slight headache again in the third period, but everything else was fine."

Nolan and Domi agreed that the win over Ottawa was revenge from a 7-1 drubbing by Ottawa on Jan. 8.

Domi took five penalties at the end of the game, including a double minor for instigating a fight with a visor, when he punched Shaun Van Allen, igniting a melee at 19:35 of the third.

"When a guy butt-ends our goalie, when he spears our captain twice ... he has to be accountable," he said of Van Allen.

The Senators were upset over the fight with Van Allen, who was wearing a full face visor for broken jaw. Van Allen accused Domi of gouging his face.

"They can say what they want, I've been in this league a long time and I've never been accused of gouging anyone," Domi said.

Sens captain Daniel Alfredsson called Domi's actions on Van Allen an embarrassment. But some Leafs were upset with him after he took a penalty for kneeing Mats Sundin.

"I lost a lot of respect for (Alfredsson)," Domi said. "He tried to take out our best player and bring down our season. We never tried any of that stuff on them (when the Leafs lost 7-1)."

Sundin remained diplomatic.

"It was just that he was late on his check," Sundin said. "I went by him and he was out of position. He hit me with his hip and that's legal."
