For the seventh consecutive year, Maple Leafs pugilist Tie Domi and his wife Leanne will ensure that a significant number of youths staying in area hostels will enjoy the holiday season. Domi is contributing more than 4,000 new toys to the Santa on Wheels Program, a city initiative that collects and distributes new toys for children and families who spend the holiday season in Toronto hostels.
A group of the aforementioned kids will attend the Leafs morning skate at the Air Canada Centre today. Once Domi is done on the ice, he will trade in his helmet for a Santa Claus hat and distribute gifts to the children.
Asked what had changed the most during his seven-year involvement, Domi replied, "The increased number of kids living in hostels. It's scary."
FERGIE FANS
Because of his lengthy stint in the St. Louis Blues organization, Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson still has some fans in the St. Louis dressing room.
"Fergie is a huge part (of my career). No question he was an integral part of it," forward Mark Rycroft said.
"Fergie is straight to the point. He doesn't pull any punches. He tells you exactly what he means. And there's nothing better than somebody that tells you up front what's expected. There's no reason to dance around it."
QUOTE, UNQUOTE
