Domi to give visor a look

The next time Tie Domi gets into a scrap, his opponent's punch may hit a visor before it strikes Domi's head. We're not making this up.

In the wake of retinal surgery on Maple Leafs teammate Darcy Tucker yesterday morning, Domi said he will try a visor in practice and will wear one in games if he feels comfortable.

MACHO

Actually, Domi said he would do what he used to do when he fought in junior for the Peterborough Petes -- simply take his helmet off.

"We all want to be macho, but this has to do with the rest of your life," Domi said. "It's one of those things where I think all of us don't really care what people think anymore.

"I got read the riot act today from my wife (Leanne). I have the rest of my life and I want to make sure I can see all three of my kids grow up with both of my eyes and with good vision.

"I'm definitely going to give it a shot (in practice)."

Domi has seen several teammates take sticks in the eye and suffer serious injuries. Three weeks ago, Owen Nolan was hit in the left eye against the Buffalo Sabres but could be back next week; on March 11, 2000, Bryan Berard was hit in the eye by the stick of the Ottawa Senators' Marian Hossa. Berard missed a whole season as he recovered.

"When Darcy was down (on Tuesday night) I was thinking of the Bryan Berard situation and the same thing when Owen was kicking his feet," Domi said. "If the league makes (wearing a visor) mandatory, I don't think there will be too many complaints."
