The debut of Domi-Vision has been postponed. Despite rumours yesterday that the Maple Leafs tough guy Tie Domi would wear a face shield and send a powerful message about eye protection via a national TV audience, he decided he wasn't comfortable enough with the piece of equipment.

A No. 28 helmet with the visor was on the shelf of the Toronto dressing room during the morning skate, in which Domi was the only healthy Leaf not to participate. Coach Pat Quinn had thought Domi would wear a visor last night against the Montreal Canadiens.

Created a stir

"I know he's being fitted with one," Quinn said in the morning. "He had to go to Auto Glass to do it."

Domi created a stir on Friday when he wore the shield in practice in reaction to accidental eye injuries suffered this month by Owen Nolan and Darcy Tucker. Almost four years ago, the Leafs lost Bryan Berard to a serious eye injury.

While the issue has received lots of attention in Toronto and many Leafs are taking a soul-searching look at visors, it's not yet creating the same stir around the rest of the NHL.

The NHL players association shows no signs of changing its view that visors are a personal choice.
